The Unmatched Thrill of Online Shopping: and Why Our Tush is Looking for a Change.

Let's be honest, we all do it. We love to shop online. Sometimes my tush gets so tired and sore from all the sitting I have to do clicking, paying, scrolling for all the great deals that can show up on my doorstep in just a day!
Shopping local has become a specific task for our society. Hear me out. Whatever we seemingly need is at our fingertips. Groceries. Fast food. Toiletries. It's all there, just waiting on our clicks to purchase. However, to shop local requires to us form a task. You mean I have to get up out of the couch and turn off the Gilmore Girls marathon I've been binging on?1
Yes, shopping local can be a bigger challenge then click and ship. But what does shopping local actually do? In a great article written by Megan Raposa for the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce in 2024, the article lists many of the regular bullet points that make us feel good such as local business reinvesting in our community and the financial investment into our city or community's future. But my favorite, we get to talk to people. The mere thought of human interaction just sent chills down some peoples bodies.
I would dare to say that this basic act of physical human interaction is being forgotten, leading to many people forgetting what the wonderful experience of shopping local means. I personally love it when I go into my favorite restaurant and the wait staff knows I want extra cream and sugar for my cup of coffee. It makes me feel good. It makes me happy!
For over 45 years this little pet store has been trying to make people happy everyday. My biggest hope is that we are able to put a smile on peoples face when they come into the store and talk, hold a puppy, share a hug with the staff or just find something local they needed and knowing that they no longer have to have a sore tush from the couch.
So to all the sore tush'd shoppers out there, c'mon in and shop at the stores that make up our great community (your tush will love you for it).
