Pekinese

General Breed Characteristics

Pekinese dogs originally were raised to guard temple in china, it was thought their lion-like appearance would scare away evil demons. They are good natured and happy.

Grown Height: 6-9 inches (measured at the shoulder)
Grown Weight: 7-14 pounds

Temperament: Consider the Pekinese as a lap dog. It is cute and generally knows it. The trick is to socialize it well as a puppy so it doesn’t focus on just one person for it’s loyalty. They are happy animals and very affectionate – but wary of strangers.

Basic Care: Brushing once or twice a week, bathing every 2-3 months. It does not tolerate cold or hot weather very well.
