What should you feed your dog?

Many people are surprised to learn that dogs need much the same kind of diet as people...fruits, vegetables, grains, and of course, meat.  Of course, that doesn't mean that table scraps are the healthiest way to go.  Because of their smaller size, it's important to make sure your dog gets the right balance of nutrients to stay healthy and live a long, happy life.  That's why dog food was created.  But not all dog food is created equal...

If you watch the TV commercials, you would expect that your dog will be getting lean cuts of beef, plump chickens and fresh grains.  Unfortunately, that's not really the case.  Most of the ingredients that go into dog food are leftovers from manufacturing human food - things that are "unfit for human consumption."  In reality, many of the ingredients are downright scary: animal "by-products", rendered restaurant grease, corn meal, artificial additives and preservatives, and contaminants that are not allowed in human food.
